Today was a rather interesting day. I had a practicum today and went on my first home visit. Now for those of you that don't know, I am going to school to become a School Psychologist. Basically I will work with students of all ages and make changes in thier educational curriculum to help them learn better. I will also partner with teachers and parents and help create interventions that can be made to improve the educational environment of their students and children. I will be making home visits from time to time as well. And this will be very eye opening because I will be going into homes of all types and encounter family situations that are very tragic. This home visit today wasn't the worst I will encounter but it definitely was not the best. This will be the tough part about my job because I will see the kind of environments these kids are living in and have to deal with the fact that I can't do very much to get them out of these situations. However, it also excites me because I have a feeling I will have many opportunities to share my faith with these people. Which in turn will allow more opportunities to get involved in these peoples lives and show God's love to them. Something that I was reminded of this afternoon was that this world is a mission field. We often think of missions as going to foreign lands. Most likely this career choice will not lead me to foreign lands with tons of lost people but it will lead me to local communities with tons of lost people. So basically I am looking at these opportunities as local mission projects. I know this will be a challenge due to the many types of people I will have to deal with. But I know that God will be there. And with God all things are possible!!!
